Searching for a life partner is not an easy task. One has to make tremendous effort to find the right partner and even if he or she does, one has to be sure that he or she is the person to settle down with on a long-term basis. Marriage after all is considered to be a sacred institution, and those getting into it would like it to last. This would mean that one should be able to select the right kind of partner with whom he or she can adjust.
Choosing a husband is a onerous task. One has to live with him, bear his children and adjust to his whims and fancies and likes and dislikes. What are the parameters to choose a husband?

- Be careful of your choice. Do not go in for a person with bad habits such as too much drinking or a gambler. Their habits may prove to be very expensive and it may cause problems for you in running your household budget. In fact you may have to pay for their expensive habits. Many working women face these problems. They have to often share the financial responsibilities and end up paying for their husband’s follies. It is not easy to live with an alcoholic and such marriages end up in divorces
- Be a good observant. Get to know him for sometime, about his tastes, habits, and views so that you do not face adjustment problems in the future. Of course the possibilities of a person changing are there, but it is always better to know what one is getting into. Dissimilarities in views can cause problems although sometimes it may be otherwise. Yet it is better to think alike on many issues to avoid ego problems
- Assess his financial capacities to maintain a family. He should be earning well enough to maintain you and your children and provide you with basic comforts. No point in idealizing a marriage, although one tends to. One should take a down- to- earth approach and make sure you do not face any financial hardships after marriage which can affect the relationship
- One marries for emotional and financial security. One must search a partner who can fulfill both the needs
- Do not necessarily fall for a handsome person. Sometimes they may not turn out to be loyal. They may chase other women after marriage. Sometimes the next-door-boy look may be appealing and provide more security
- Sexual attraction plays an important role. You must be attracted to him. He should be likeable
- While dating, try to observe whether he is serious about marriage, whether he has a sense of commitment. Also try to ascertain his views on marriage, whether he believes that it is a sacred institution
- Do not rush into marriage. Give time to think. You have to think whether he is right person for you and, similarly, he also has to be mentally prepared before getting into a marriage
- One must check out his attitude towards other women. He should have a positive feelings towards other women, such as his sister, mother etc. This would prove to be a favorable factor in the marriage being a success
Choose a husband carefully. You have to live with him. He should not be a pain in the neck. One should be careful in one’s selection to avoid a divorce as far as possible. It may not be easy, but one can still give it a try.
