Induced Menopause

Induced menopause is not a usual affair. It happens rarely when any one of the following condition happens. Like:

Ovaries get damaged due to radiation, some medications or due to the process of chemotherapy.
When ovaries are removed through a surgical process.

Induced menopause is different from a natural type of menopause. Natural menopause takes place when the production levels of the sex hormones like estrogen and progesterone are decreased naturally. Whereas, an induced menopause is one where reduction in the levels of the ovarian hormones is caused abruptly due to some external reasons.

In the case of induced menopause, a sudden onset of the menopausal symptoms takes place. Like, vaginal dryness, hot flashes, decline in sex- drive etc. takes place suddenly. These short term changes can be cured or reduced with the help of Hormone Therapy and some other medications.

Types Of Induced Menopause:
There various ways through which the menopause can be induced. These are:

Surgically Induced Menopause: The menopause which is induced due to surgery happen because of the hysterectomy. Hysterectomy is the procedure in which removal of uterus or any such part related to reproduction is removed surgically due some deformity. The removal of one or more such parts which about the reduction in the hormonal levels which result in the immediate and unexpected symptoms of the menopause.
Surgical Hysterectomy is basically of three types. These are – subtotal, total and radical hysterectomy.
A subtotal hysterectomy is the process of removing the upper portion of the uterus, total hysterectomy is the process of removing the entire uterus and cervix and radical hysterectomy is the process where uterus, ovaries, cervix, pelvic lymph nodes, fallopian tubes all are reduced.
Drug Induced Menopause: The patients who suffer from any type cancer usually take drugs which have high chemical content in them. This chemical content travels throughout the body resulting in Menopause. These drugs affect cancer as well as the normal cells. These damage the ovarian cells and also damage the eggs.
The cancer patients also undergo chemotherapy. The radiations of this therapy also have the capability to cause Menopause.
