Postpartum anxiety can occur at any stage of life. It is very necessary and difficult to recognize postpartum anxiety. Postpartum anxiety is common in those who have background of anxiety or depression in past.
Symptoms Of Postpartum Anxiety:
- Lack of interest in everyday life.
- Change in eating habits which is usually inability to eat, but sometimes it could be overeating too.
- A women having postpartum will have less energy than normal.
- She will have less sleep or will sleep more.
- She will cry for easily and apparently for no reason.
- She will have overwhelming feelings of guilt, worthlessness, hopelessness and anxiety.
- She will feel restless and irritable.
- Some serious symptoms of postpartum anxiety are desire to kill herself or herself.
Women Are More Prone To Postpartum Anxiety:
- There are several indicators which show that women are more prone to Postpartum Anxiety.
- Women who have a previous history of postpartum depression or any other type of depression are likely to have this disease.
- Also those women having severe problems with premenstrual syndrome are likely of having postpartum anxiety.
- If events surrounding her pregnancy and delivery of child are extremely stressful such as premature baby then this could lead to postpartum anxiety.
Treatment Of Postpartum Anxiety:
- This depression can also be treated just like any other depression.
- Medicine to control serotonin in her brain can be taken.
- Counseling also works up to great extent. Discussing the problem with someone relaxes the mind.
- Someone who is near and dear to her must stay by her and support her. Sympathy of a caretaker will help in early recovery.
- Patient must take self initiatives also which include to take some time for herself, do something which she enjoys to do, take time out of her baby and write something, so for walk, spend some time with nature etc, this will give relaxation to both mind and body.
