Liposuction Procedures

Liposuction is a kind of ‘Cosmetic surgery’. Liposuction is carried out in order to remove fat from number of areas such as thighs, hips, butt arms mid section etc. Liposuction is the final resort for fat removal from those parts where inspite of regular exercise and dieting no reduction has taken place.

Which Individuals should under go Liposuction?

Only those individuals who have average weight or are slightly above average weight can undertake this surgery. They must be in good health and have firm and elastic skin.

Procedure:

  • First anaesthesia is given.
  • A suction device is attached to a stainless steel instrument called ‘cannula’.
  • Through small inclusion, cannula is inserted into fatty areas in between skin and muscles.
  • Once it reaches its noted area it removes excess fat using syringe or suction pumps.

Types Of Liposuctions:

There are basically two types of Liposuctions:

  • Tumescent Liposuction:

    In this technique doctor injects a solution into the fatty acids before removing the fat. This solution is made up of saline solution, a mild painkiller and a drug called ‘epinephrine’ which contracts blood vessels. This solution helps in removing large quantity of fat without losing much blood and it prevents excessive pain also both during and after surgery.

  • Ultrasound assisted Liposuction:

    In this process ultrasonic waves are used to remove fat after which machine is removed from body.

Recovery Period:

Once surgery is done patient can return back to his/her work within few days only. In order to return back to his/her normal life it takes about two weeks. But it can vary from patient to patient, amount of fat removed, areas operated on for the removal etc.

Risks involved in surgery:

There few risks involved with Liposuction surgery if it is carried by some learned professional. Still, the risks that involve surgery are infection and discoloration of skin.
