Most deodorants are aluminum deodorants, and almost all antiperspirants have aluminum in them.
Aluminum, or Aluminium, is a metal and a proven neurotoxin. Aluminum is present in deodorants and antiperspirants in the form of complexes and salts.
The aluminum complexes work by reacting with the electrolytes in sweat and forming plugs in the sweat glands. This prevents sweat from forming. Over a period of time, the sweat glands can even disappear, with continuous usage of the deodorant.
Aluminum salts prevent sweat from coming to the surface of the skin. This is done by their interaction with keratin fibrils in the sweat ducts or by astringent effect on the skin.
Health effects of aluminum deodorants
Aluminum deodorants are the most effective deodorants, but there has been much debate on their safety. When we use deodorants, we spray them directly on to our armpits. Theoretically, this delivers high concentration aluminum straight into in to auxiliary lymph nodes, which are important organs, and possibly into the breasts. This has raised concerns of breast cancer.
Aluminum deodorants have also been linked to increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease. When we spray a deodorant, the aluminum goes into our skin and there is a possibility of it being absorbed into the blood stream. This aluminum might get deposited in the brain. Aluminum deposits in the brain are one of the characteristics of Alzheimer’s.
Another study shows that aluminum may lead to some respiratory disorders. This is in addition to the fact that aluminum causes neurological problems.
Recent study
But a recent study of breast cancer sufferers versus an age matched control group showed no increased risk of breast cancer amongst the users of aluminum based deodorants. While this doesn’t disprove the theory of increased risk of breast cancer due to deodorants, it does cast doubts on it.
Even if you want to discontinue the use of deodorants just to be on the safe side, you may not be able to do so due to the risk of loneliness and social isolation as a result of body odor. This may lead to other problems. You just cant win sometimes…..

I really enjoyed the article posted regarding harmful ingredients in deodorants/antiperspirants. It was very informative, and I believe you are absolutely correct about the negative impact that harmful chemicals can have on our bodies. I have discovered several amazing reports to validate your position. One report in particular is very serious in nature and was documented on CNN.
