Female Hysteria

Hysteria is derived from the Greek word ‘hystron’ meaning uterus. Greeks believed that hysteria was caused due to wandering of the womb or uterus in women. Female hysteria was at its peak during the Victorian era; it was claimed that a quarter of women suffered from hysteria in the upper class Western society during that era. The disorder was later linked with sexual dissatisfaction in passionate women between 14-25 age groups. It was believed that hysteria was physical manifestation of internal conflicts.

Hysteria Symptoms
The common symptoms of hysteria are: emotional instability (sudden sadness or elation), deep sighing, headache, difficulty in breathing, palpitations, sensation of rumblings within the belly, heaviness in the limbs, suffocation, clenching of teeth, loss of consciousness, etc.

Home Remedies for Hysteria
It is claimed that hysteria is curable in majority of the cases. Since the cause of hysteria is mental as well as physical, the focus of the treatment can be healing of both. In both these regards, home remedies may play important role to treat hysteria.
