It is said that only a child can make a woman complete, though it might be refuted by feminists saying that is she a child bearing machine or what but pregnancy is still an experience that makes many a woman happy. A child in your hands which you have been sustaining for 9 months inside you can actually change one’s life. A mother would always want her child to be happy and healthy, however obesity can come in the way.
The Risk Factors: Obesity And Pregnancy
This article will list the number of problems an obese mother might face and problems that may also affect her child:
- Caesarean Section: Hardly can an obese mother opt for a normal delivery; they generally have to go for a caesarean delivery because chances of a prolonged labor or other complications rise substantially.
- Preeclampsia: This is a condition in which the mother retains excess fluids; she has high pressure and swelling all of which can cut of the blood supply to the child endangering the life of the fetus.
- Problems Babies Face: The baby may have certain problems like childhood obesity (which is a leading factor of obesity among adults), Type 2 Diabetes, Neural tube defects. There are increased chances of other fetal abnormalities.
- Dystonia: There is an increased risk of dystonia (dystonia is a complexity involved in the delivery of shoulder of the baby due to heavy weight).
- Postpartum: These are the infections that an obese mother might catch.
What Can Be Done To Reduce Risks?
If you are obese and pregnant you have to take of certain things, so that you have a normal pregnancy complete with a normal delivery and a very normal baby:
- Always check your weight and consult with the doctor.
- You have to follow a nourishing diet that consists of fresh fruits, whole wheat breads and vegetables.
- Pregnancy means that what you have your baby inside you also has the same , so it is better not to go for oily food at all.
- Increase your physical activity, however that should be done only after consultation with your doctor. If you choose to do exercise and yoga then you can ask for help from your trainer as well.
