My Indian Girl

It is really heart warming to find that inspite of prevailing restrictions, the status of modern Indian girl is slowly but positively changing. Perhaps it has much to do with more and more Indian women coming up top in politics, business, sports, etc. The positive roles played by the parents in bringing up their girl child cannot be ignored. But, the greatest change is indeed in the mindset of girls themselves. I can now very well visualize the confident look of my Indian girl.

What is it that separates Indian Girls of Today from the Girls of Previous Generations?

Confidence and Assertiveness: Perhaps the most important factor that distinguishes modern girls from the girls of earlier generations is their self confidence and assertiveness. Remember the 10-year-old girl from rural West Bengal opting for education when her parents were all set to get her married? The girl took help from local administration and social organization and stopped her marriage. Though, these types of incidents are few and far between, but they show that mindsets of people are changing.

Positive Role of the Parents: These days, girls are nurtured in a way so that they grow up to be independent-thinking individuals. Parents are acknowledging the positive role that their girl child can play armed with proper care and education. In Indian households, more girls are enjoying equal status and opportunities like that of boys. As a result, they are becoming deft in handling their personal and professional affairs with poise and charm.

Changing Society: Though much left to be done, our society is increasingly becoming aware of the importance of education and proper healthcare for the girls. It is accepting and doing its part in acknowledging the role played by girls in modern India. Gone are the days when boys were perceived as natural bread earners of the family, girls are now gradually and surely replacing them.

What is my Expectation of an Indian Girl?
My Indian girl is one who is not afraid to break her shell and win the world with courage, conviction and grit. My Indian girl is one who is never afraid to face challenges; yet, enjoys life to the fullest. She should be responsible enough to take her role as a citizen of the world in the truest sense.
