Menopause marks the end of childbearing years in a woman with halt of monthly menstrual cycle. While it generally starts at around 50 years of age, in some women, menopause can start in mid-40 also. Menopause does not occur all of a sudden; it goes through a sudden process. Some early signs of menopause include change in monthly cycle, hot flushes, mood swings, chronic fatigue, vaginal dryness, water retention, etc.
Early Signs of Menopause
Some of the early signs of menopause are listed as under:
- Change in Monthly Cycle as a Sign of Menopause: It is suggested that the period leading to menopause can show signs of hormonal imbalance in our body. This can cause early onset or delayed menstruation every month when the ovaries do not ovulate on a regular basis.
- Hot Flushes as an early Sign of Menopause: It is suggested that deficiency of estrogen hormones can lead to hypothalamus malfunction. This malfunction can cause the hypothalamus to release chemicals so as to release the heat by dilating the blood vessels of the skin. This can cause sensation of intense heat, known as hot flush.
- Mood Swings as Early Menopause Sign: Experts believe that imbalance in hormonal level can have effect on one’s emotional state. This can cause mood swings, depression, aggressive behaviour, etc.
- Insomnia as Early Menopause Sign: Insomnia can cause because of a lot of factors. These can be night sweats, mood swings, depression, etc. As a result many women stay up all night being hyper or jumpy.
- Chronic Fatigue as an early sign of Menopause: It is believed that depression and lack of sleep can cause severe drop in energy level. This can lead to chronic fatigue.
- Vaginal Dryness as a Sign of Menopause: It is believed that decline in estrogen hormone can make the vaginal walls thin and dry.
The early signs of menopause can be dealt effectively with healthy diet, exercises, yoga, lifestyle changes, etc. Exercise and yoga can help in treating depression and other health-related problems. One can also take professional help so as to deal with problems related to hormonal imbalances.
