Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama is the first black woman to be the First Lady of the United States of America. She is the wife of the newly elected President of the United States of America, Barack Hussein Obama. She is a mother of two children Malia Ann, 10 yrs, and Natasha, 7 yrs. She has been of constant support to her husband in his struggle to win the presidential elections.

Born in Chicago, Illinois on January 17th, 1964 she graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School. She grew up in humble surroundings and always felt that hard work paid off in achieving one’s goal. As a child she was taught that race and color did not deter her from achieving what she believed in and wanted. After her graduation from Law school she held quite a few senior posts and joined the University of Chicago as associate dean of student services and set up its first community service program. She was also appointed as executive director of community and external services and remained in that post till 2005. She subsequently joined University of Chicago Medical Center.

Although she did not like being termed as feminist or liberal, she was quite strong- willed and outspoken. She managed her work and family well and had progressive views about role of men and women in society. Despite her husband being a senator, she continued her pursuits, and only when he declared himself as a presidential candidate did she adjust her work schedule.

Now as her role as the First Lady of America, she has innumerable responsibilities and social obligations. Not only will she be a force to reckon with at the national level, but at the international level also she will be watched at all times.

We at YGOY wish her the best
