Women are vulnerable to many situations in the environment. The environment that they live in impacts their health in many ways. A conducive environment will bring the best in them. An environment that negates their personality will hamper their overall growth. It would therefore interest us to understand the role of environment in a woman’s life.
How Environment Impacts a Woman’s Life?
- Chemicals found in the air affect a woman’s health negatively. They can be a cause for serious health problems, such as the lungs, the reproductive system and cancer.
- Women are also concerned about the health of children, which can be damaged due to chemicals found in the air.
- Out door air pollution, like gases emanating from cars, fire-smoke can prove to be health hazards. Nose burning, eye- itching, throat irritation etc. are some of the side-effects.
- Pregnant women also have to be careful. Eclipses can damage their foetus.
- Environmental estrogens found in the air negatively impact a woman’s health. DDT, polychlorinated biphneyls, kepone etc. remain in the air, affecting health.
- Indoor air pollution is also of major concern. Use of gas, coal, tobacco products, pest control, painting also damage a woman’s health.
- Overheating and air-conditioning can lead to in-door health problems.
- Household products can also affect a woman’s health. It is better to use products sold with warnings with an exhaust fan.
- Pesticides should be used carefully as they can cause nerve damage, birth defects as well as cancer.
- Carbon monoxide is a major health hazard and many women using house-hold fuels are exposed to it.
Women are, no doubt, exposed to many chemicals and pollutants in the air. Much attention needs to be given to prevent these pollutants from damaging her health. Whether at home or outside, she has to take necessary precautions against negative environmental influences on her health.
