Women have always fought for their rights vis-a vis men. They have asserted themselves and felt they deserve more than what is actually being doled out for them. From ages onwards they have felt the need to be emancipated. Even now, they continue to do so world-wide.
Why do women need to be emancipated? What are the issues that they are much concerned with? Obviously, we would be able to better appreciate the need for emancipation, if we understand the underlying causes for such efforts.
Top Reasons for Women’s Emancipation
- Women have fought their way for higher education. In many countries, traditionally women are denied opportunities to educate themselves
- Equal wages is another issue that women have raised their voice against
- Women do not like to be identified in stereotype roles. They are after all challenging the same tasks that men are undertaking
- On the home front, women want greater responsibility in household matters. Even on financial issues they must be consulted
- They expect the father to also shoulder parental responsibilities, such as babysitting the child when the mother is away
- Women are against sexual harassment in places of work
- They believe in equal opportunities
- Women should not be treated as merely sex objects to satisfy the lust of men
- Violence against women should be condemned
- Women want to be recruited for challenging posts, such as police officers, pilots, which traditionally are considered to be the prerogative of men
Women all over the world are asserting themselves. They are carving a niche for themselves. It is a tough battle for them, but nevertheless they continue to fight for their rights.
