Christmas is all about experiencing the joy of oneself and others. Such occasions call for great joy and merry making that may leave our surroundings and environment all littered and dirty with waste materials. Meddling with nature and marring it with our negligent and careless habits can make life difficult for us and no other. So spread the aura of a festive mood by celebrating an environment friendly Christmas this time.
Follow these tips for a greener Christmas this year:
- Throw away potato and carrot peelings into compost bins which are located at every nook and corner of the road.
-
Pick up food items and other necessities in paper bags rather than in plastic bags or wrappers.
- Pick up all the empty wine bottles, cans, papers, plastics and Christmas tree and deposit them at recycling banks rather than sending the waste to landfills.
- Try conserving electricity by switching off the lights when not in use.
- Try keeping aside extra paper either for decorative or wrapping purposes for reuse in the upcoming year.
- Do not buy organic foods like vegetables from the supermarket. Instead grow them at home in your backyard. Recipes prepared from them are delicious, healthy and nutritious.
- Select a natural Christmas tree rather than an artificial or plastic one like a branch from the pine or fir trees.
- Prepare decorations at home by using holly branches and mistletoe leaves and by preparing gingerbread men from organic foods.
- Instead of buying a gift from stores, prepare organic foods and recipes at home to gift to your loved ones.
Let this Christmas be as green for you as for others. Be a conscious individual and abstain from polluting your surroundings by following the above tips.
